Project SEARCH provides and internship programme that provides real-word job experience, support to find full-time paid work and then subsequent support for both ex-students and employers once they are in work. If you would like to see our web site dedicated to Project SEARCH in North East London, you can find it at www.projectsearch.org.uk.
The program started in the US and spread internationally, each country may have many separate Project SEARCH operations, serving a particular region.
Since 2013 Whitefield has run the Project SEARCH programme in North East London in partnership with Barts Health NHS Trust. SEARCH's training and job placement offers an unparalleled success rate, with over 70% of students who complete placements moving into full-time work. The programme has proven so successful that it now takes special needs students from many other schools.
In its first year Project SEARCH proved a tremendous success. All five students who graduated from the Whipps Cross Barts Heath NHS Trust programme have found permanent jobs. All are receiving continuing support from the Project and the school as they begin their working lives.
The second year saw Project SEARCH take on a much larger intake of twelve interns from Whitefield, William Morris and Joseph Clarke schools together with mainstream schools and Waltham Forest College. Once again they were offered work placements by Barts Health.
The Project continues from strength to strength and has expanded into Mile End and the Royal London hospitals- you can read the latest updates below.
Project SEARCH at Whipps Cross Hospital is coordinated by Jamie Bargeman, the project lead from and head of Post-16 provision at Whitefield Schools.
