The National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership provides national recognition of successful participants’ leadership development and professional achievements.
Children and young people are at the heart of the programme, which develops participants’ skills and knowledge to help them lead teaching and learning more effectively. Participants share their experiences, discuss theory and leadership strategies, reflect on their practice and evaluate the systems within their schools. The programme emphasises leading change, supporting learning and, where necessary, holding others to account. Participants put theory into practice in their schools and report back on the impact of their leadership.
All participants undertake a school-based project where they exercise leadership to ‘close a gap’ in pupil achievement. Their written evidence of the project outcomes and the skills and strategies demonstrated is externally assessed against challenging criteria.
