QBE donation & Joseph Clarke Trust golf day raise £9,000 for new braillers

The School would like to extend its thanks to two groups who have generously raised substantial amounts of money towards plans to provide pupils who need them with access to high-tech brailling machines.

In July the Joseph Clarke Trust  received a donation of £4,000 from QBE Insurance Group - the second time that the company has made a substantial donation to the school.

Also in July the Joseph Clarke Trust held its 3rd Charity Golf Day at West Essex Golf Course and raised nearly £5,000. The Trust is extremely grateful for the generous support and sponsorship from both local Businesses and Friends of the Trust. The Main Sponsor, was Borno Pharmacy in Highams Park and the Hole Sponsors were Henry Morgan, WPB Waste Brokers, Habitari, McRaes Estate Agents, Walthamstow Social Centre for the Blind, Rotary Club of Chingford, Sullivan & Co, Essex Security Services Limited. Abbey Total Care Group, Robert's Motorworks, Phil Mitchell, David Cross, Kevin Horgan and Mr Khan.

The Auction and Raffle raised about £1,400 and the Trust is also grateful to everyone who contributed raffle prizes  The Auction consisted of 3 Lots including.....a Fourball Voucher donated by West Essex Golf Club, a Snooker Cue signed by Ronnie O'Sullivan donated by Matchroom Sport and an Arsenal Shirt, signed by Charlie George, and Arsenal memorabilia donated by Alfie Harper.

52 intrepid Golfers teed off on a bright and sunny day. The morning's  9-hole Texas Scramble Competition was won by a team entered by Matchroom Sport. In the afternoon there was an 18 hole Stableford Competition that was won by Dave Brown with 36 points. The Longest Drive Competition was won by Daniel Bees and the Nearest the Pin Competition was won by Pete Whalley. In the evening 20 Guests joined the Golfers for the Presentation Dinner that was followed by the Auction and Raffle.

Notetaker braillers
The Notetakers feature a screen and are internet-connected.

Needless to say the Trust is planning to hold the Golf Day again in 2017. If anyone wishes to receive details of next year's Golf Day please contact John Chipperfield on 07903 494834 or by email
The money received from QBE and raised at the Charity Golf Day will go towards purchasing another two Braille Notetakers increasing the total to five. It is the intention of the Trust to try to meet Isobel Cox's aim to provide an individual Notetaker for the pupils that are capable of using one. Isobel said: "Modern braillers are already beginning to have an impact on our students' achievements and these donations will help extend the benefits even further. Thank you all so much for your incredible generosity”.
