The first year of Project SEARCH at Whipps Cross Hospital has been well documented - 5 graduating interns, all moving into full time paid employment.
Last year, the Whipps Cross Hospital group grew into a full cohort of 12 interns. With the help of the team managed by Jamie Bargeman, over 80% of the second year graduating interns have now moved into employment or further training identified to help them move towards the ultimate goal of a paid job.
This year the programme is working with 18 interns, across two sites in the Barts Health NHS Trust estate - Whipps Cross and Mile End Hospitals. There is also a Newham College co-ordinated programme that is now underway at Newham Hopsital. This can only be good news as more young people with learning difficulties and autism gain employment and begin to develop independence and fullfilling lives for their future.
