Pupils help Bank of England Museum with VI improvements

A group of Joseph Clarke students were invited to the Bank of England Museum this term as part of the Museum’s push to look at ways of improving the accessibility of its exhibits to visitors – particularly children with visual impairments. An audio-described tour of key exhibits was complemented by access to a number of tactile objects including: a page of printed bank notes and the always-popular real gold bar which visitors can touch and lift.

The pupils were found the visit very enjoyable and were delighted to be asked for their feedback. They describe it variously as “a brilliant day”, “really interesting” and fantastic.

 The visit was an opportunity for the museum to see whether it could build on its existing audio-described tours to see if they could be tailored for children. It’s now analysing the  feedback from the school to see if any improvements could me made and hopes to be able to offer the tour to other schools in the future.

Joseph Clarke School Headteacher, Isobel Cox said: “It was a privilege for our pupils to be invited to support the Museum in this way. The tour was so interesting that we all have plans to return with our own families!”
