Congratulations are due to Mahsa, one of our sixth-form pupils who has just been awarded 2 AS Levels - in English Language and French. In the Speaking component of the French test she achieved an A grade. She has worked very hard to achieve this success, overcoming many barriers.
This achievement is testament to the success of our partnership with neighbouring Highams Park School, who provided the excellent A level teaching, building on the outstanding grounding in both subjects to GCSE level, and Braille, taught by the teachers at Joseph Clarke School. Joseph Clarke Head teacher Isobel Cox said "I am thrilled to announce that Mahsa has achieved AS Awards in English Language and French this summer. She worked so hard to achieve these results."
Isobel also paid tribute to the work of the Joseph Clarke Resources Department who devoted time to preparing Braille versions of the A-level texts — and the school's mobility officers worked to help Mahsa learn the routes to and from the sixth form classrooms at Highams Park School.
She was initially supported in her lessons by Joseph Clarke teaching assistants, but soon became more confident at negotiating the route and the class routines. She was also the first pupil to have full use of one of our new BrailleNote machines for her studies; kindly donated by the Joseph Clarke Trust.
