Joseph Clarke School Radio goes live!

It’s finally here! After a tremendous amount of work by students, staff and our friends at ‘hSpark’,  Highams Park’s own community radio station,  the Joseph Clarke School radio station has gone live. Tune in from 5pm on weekdays or 1pm at weekends to hear programmes made by the students from Metropolitan, Victoria, Bakerloo and Central Line classes.

The programmes are streamed over the Internet – just point your browser at hSpark’s website at There are 10 programmes in all, which will be played in rotation over the days, but if you miss one, don’t fret, a couple of weeks after they are first broadcast, they will be uploaded to where you will be able to listen to them on-demand.

Thank you to hSpark and in particular station manager ‘Spoon’ for showing students the elements of radio-craft. Our thanks too to the QBE Foundation  for a £10,000 grant (via the Joseph Clarke  School Trust) that is being used for equipment, software and training.

John Cross of QBE Global Trade Credit visited the school on Friday and pressed the switch to launch the first programme.

What the students have to say….

I have really enjoyed how Mr. Spoon has put the show together. In the sessions he was funny and helpful when explaining what was required from us. Mr. Spoon allowed us to pick what we wanted to speak about and the songs that we wanted to be played. I feel from a personal point of view that these sessions have helped me to be more confident when speaking about myself and respecting the likes and dislikes of others.
— Saffire

These sessions have boosted my confidence to be able to talk about my love of Harry Potter. and I have learnt new skills in how a radio show is put together.

Mr spoon gave me free choice in what was said and what music would be played.
— Shanee

I have had so much fun talking into the microphone, talking about some useful things and introducing songs.
Spoon has helped me to be more confident in talking in front of a crowd or a mic and for this, I can't thank him enough.
