JCS pupils making mural for Highams Park Station

Joseph Clarke School has been chosen to create a mural of the Overground sign for Highams Park Station as part of an initiative by Arriva, supported by Waltham Forest Borough of Culture.

Last week, mosaic artist Maud Milton and her team from Artyface visited to work with pupils on the first part of the project. Together classes created and painted the small clay tiles that will go to make up the final mosaic. The painted tiles will be glazed and fired and Maud will be coming back to the school next term to work with students to put the tiles together to create the final design.

We were using everyday objects to create wonderful patterns  – Shanee

The process amazed me - to think it will last and last – Abdur Rehman

The mural will be mounted at the station by the end of the year – exactly which wall it will go on is still being decided, but it is guaranteed to  be a beautiful addition. Thank you to Maud for an excellent couple of days.
